Behind the placement: entering a crowded conversation on Quora
What does a real link placement look like before it becomes a published mention? Here's an anonymized example from one of our community campaigns.
The short version
A client in the AI photo-editing space wanted to enter a search conversation already dominated by two established tools. Rather than looking for any available backlink, LinkGenie found the exact Quora question buyers were asking, analyzed the existing answers, and wrote a first-person answer that covered the known options fairly and added the client as another relevant choice with a clear reason why. The result read as a genuine recommendation, not an advertisement.
The client's challenge
The category was crowded. When people searched for the best AI photo-editing tools, the same two names came up again and again. A new brand had no natural way into that conversation, and buying a generic link on an unrelated site would not have changed what buyers saw.
The question we started with
Most link building starts with "where can we get a backlink?" We started somewhere else:
Where are potential buyers already asking for recommendations?
That led us to a specific Quora question: "What are the best AI tools for photo editing?" It had real buying intent, it was being read, and it was the kind of thread that search engines and AI assistants pick up when answering similar questions.
Finding the gap
We read through the existing answers. Most of them recommended the same two tools. That was the opportunity: the thread was useful, but incomplete.
The angle
Rather than replacing the existing recommendations or attacking competitors, our answer acknowledged the established options, explained where each one shines, and then added our client as another relevant choice, with a specific reason a reader might prefer it.
- Fair to the tools readers already know, which builds trust.
- Written in the first person, from real experience with the tools.
- One clear reason to consider the client, tied to a real use case.
The process, step by step
- Research
- Identify the gap
- Find the right angle
- Create useful content
- Place the brand naturally
The link is only the visible part of the work. The real work happens before it.
Why this matters for SEO and AI search
Q&A threads like this one rank in Google for high-intent queries and are frequently read by AI assistants when they answer "what's the best tool for…" questions. A natural, well-placed mention in the right thread can drive referral traffic today and raise the chance of being named in AI-generated answers tomorrow.
The takeaway
The goal isn't simply to get a mention. It's to make the mention make sense.
